HHS Asks For, Posts Suggestions to Improve Pandemic Flu Web Site

The Department of Health and Human Services prominently placed a suggestion box on their PandemicFlu.gov Web site.

So what? Many agencies do this in order to improve their Web sites.

HHS took it to the next level. They posted the responses and have listed the improvements made directly because of user feedback.

Of course, some people will post relevant items…

A little tough to navigate. Maybe use the CDC site (http://www.cdc.gov/flu/) as a model – it is a little less cluttered without losing clarity and content.

and others will go off topic…

I think there is a bad viral infection in South Carolina….Some people are being diagnosed with flu, others bronchitis, and others pnemonia…..But there is a larger than average number of people sick….Sore Throat, Hoarse, Congestion, Mucos, Slight Temperature….

So kudos to HHS — I’d like to see the suggestions that other federal Web sites have been getting.

At the same time, do you feel that nonsensical/partisan/defamatory comments are issues that need to be addressed when the government uses social media? For a lot of social features, it is very difficult to control the flow of information that users post (that’s by design). Our comment box is always open — and I’d like to see more people using it. So tell us your thoughts!
